Real Estate Newspaper Advertising Is Dead…And Now The Newspapers Are Realizing It
For at least six years, I have not advertised my residential real estate listings int he newspaper-any newspaper. That’s because newspaper advertising is dead. It has absolutely been replaced by various forms of of online advertising.
Why do so many realtors continue to advertise in newspapers?
Many realtors do not have marketing plans and a newspaper ad is a tangible item that can be waived in front of their seller client’s face proving that the agent is doing something to market the sellers’ home.
Or, it could be that realtors believe that seller clients demand it.
In any case, newspaper advertising for residential real estate is ineffective. Ask any buyer if they can pick up a copy of the real estate section and tell you, in a comprehensive and organized fashion, about all of the property listings in, say, Western Springs $700,000 to $900,000 price range. They cannot . Only internet-based advertising can do that.
I will admit that i read the real estate ads in The Doings, The Hinsdalean and the Suburban Life. However, I do so for entertainment purposes.
The Los Angeles Times has completely eliminated it’s real estate section.
