Are Granite Counter tops Killing Us?

As summarized nicely in a recent news story by ABC News, should we be concerned with our stone counter tops (granite, marble, limestone, etc.) being radioactive? Particularly in the luxury home markets where the use of natural stone is prevalent, this had potential to be the new environmental hazard of the decade (replacing radon).

Essentially, as concluded by the ABC news piece, their sources think that granite counter tops are not killing us.

To satisfy my own curiosity, I asked Stuart Zwang, general manager of Homeraters, a respected home inspection company in suburban Chicago. As an experienced home inspector and member of the American Society of Home Inspectors, Stuart’s expertise in matters of home deficiencies is recognized as expert.

Stuart indicated that he does not see this as an issue that will blossom into the next major environmental concern. Don’t worry.
