The United States Census Bureau has reported that the Chicago Metropolitan area has had an increase of 66,231 persons as permanent residents, for the year ending in July of 2007. The area’s total population is 9.5 million residents. This makes the Chicago metropolitan are the seventh fastest growing metropolitan area in the entire country.

The Chicago area has experienced greater growth than both the Las Vegas and Austin Texas regions.

The metropolitan area had been defined as the thirteen county area which includes portions of Wisconsin and Indiana.
