Village Of Hinsdale Considers Self-Providing Electricity
Obsolete infrastructure and frequent service interruptions frustrate residents
Hinsdale IL has experienced a significantly above average number of electrical service interruptions by it’s service provider, Com Ed. The ill effects of the service interruptions were particularly emphatic during October 2006. At that time, a severe storm hit which was accompanied by unusually heavy rainfall and power outages. Many basements were flooded.
Additionally, over 70% of the electrical distribution system is over 30 years old.
As a result, the village of Hinsdale is considering alternate ways to distribute electricity throughout the municipality. On April 17, 2007, there is a referendum on the ballot addressing whether or not the Village of Hinsdale should go further in this process.
